The BP Waterski Spectacular

Crowds gathering on the Expo Brisbane river banks were a good sign that the BP Waterski Spectacular was about to start. This 18-strong Australian contigent, in their glittering green-and-gold outifts and Australian flag held proudly high, performed to capacity audiences with a real 'wow' factor, fitting in 19 routines in 30 minutes, 4 times a day over six months.

Tackling obstacles in the Brisbane River, it's high tidal rise and fall, rain rain and more rain in the month up to the opening
of the Expo, were all taken in the contigent's stride, as they performed to professional commentary a complete repertoire of skiing skills, from ballet on swivel skis and tricks on 'shoe skiis' to 'skiing on no skis at all.

Freestyle 'helicopter' spins,
daredevil handling of skiboats, coupled with long distance jumping and comedy routines were all part of the 4-times a day show, which had a memorable silver sequin fish stage, several metres large, as it's major landing point.
